Background
A 14-year-old boy from Protea Glen Extension 2 was referred to The Teddy Bear Foundation for therapy due to ongoing behavioural challenges at home. His mother reported disrespectful behaviour, refusal to complete household chores, and a breakdown in communication between them. At the time of referral, the client and his mother had not spoken to each other for almost two months.
Intervention
The client attended six individual therapy sessions focusing on emotional expression, communication, positive behaviour, and strengthening family relationships. Through the development of a trusting therapeutic relationship, the client gradually became more engaged and receptive to the therapeutic process.
Outcome
By the third session, communication between the client and his mother had improved significantly. His grandfather also reported noticeable positive changes in his behaviour. At the conclusion of therapy, the client expressed pride in his personal growth and in the restoration of his relationship with his mother. The intervention contributed to improved behaviour, healthier communication, and more positive family interactions.
