eNCA news, 31 May 2026, Johannesburg — More than 600 participants, including children from various places of safety, Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), and child protection groups, gathered in downtown Johannesburg on Sunday 31 May 2026 for the Children’s Safety Walk to Constitutional Hill.
Children representing the Teddy Bear Foundation handed a memorandum to the Minister of Justice. The event, initiated by the Gauteng Department of Social Development in partnership with child protection organizations, aimed to break the silence on child exploitation and strengthen awareness around child safety.
This video features the director of Teddy Bear Foundation, Dr Shaheda Omar, advocating for child protection and the need for a published sex offenders register. Dr Omar also emphasizes that child protection must be a year-round priority.
